Whirlwind

This series of photographs were taken in the “Windy City”, Chicago, and represent visitors and their self reflections as they walk into @anish.kapoor ‘s stunning sculpture “Bean”. Their bodies and faces have been distorted, and their mind bent by the sculpture’s incredible curves. Nearby reflections appear circular, while those further away are pulled into a vortex, where everything is compressed and spiraling out of control. That is the all-engulfing whirlwind. It’s pull is strong and sometimes irresistible.

While it is darker in appearance, the message of the artwork is one of hope, of courage and strength to leave the whirlwind behind.

Stage

Mannequins

The Stage Series is a collection of painterly photographs that were inspired by lifelike but lifeless mannequins - infinitely beautiful and virtually indestructible. Through the transformative power of light, perspective & our own imagination, these manufactured bodies are infused with emotion, desire and meaning. They invite peaceful contemplation of what we consider beautiful, and expose the blurred boundaries between imagined and real, human and industrial, vulnerable and unbreakable.

More recent work has featured human bodies.

Windscapes

Sailboats

The Wind is a magical force, the Lake a magnificent stage. The buzz of a large metropolis fades away. The great effort of steering and racing is hidden in the distance. From the shore, it is one grand performance where playful, proud and graceful poses cross paths with rhythmic threads of wildlife. Welcome to the Windscapes of Toronto’s waterfront. This is a tale of two realities coexisting in time: the world that we see and the deeper truth we know. Sailing is physically demanding as boats zig-zag through the wind, yet from the shore it appears to be effortless gliding in a straight line. Crews race, fiercely competing in rough weather, yet the images feel peaceful, relaxing, meditative. Even in a busy metropolis peace is within reach.

Kites

The Kite Series is a collection of painterly photographs that capture the beauty and strength of that invisible force, the Wind. Mighty, patient and persistent, over time it can move mountains. On a carefree, sunny day, it transforms the sky into a decorated, magical playground where both excitement and peace can coexist.

Waterscapes

Painter-like images inspired by water, earth and flora celebrate beauty, hidden in often unusual places. They are captured in a moment of Calm, a pause that dives deep into a particular point in space and time. The Light illuminates form and colour, to the exclusion of everything else. The images are often entirely stripped of their context, their source at times a mystery. What remains is elemental, sensual and unexpected, and offers the possibility that our experience of reality can be completely redefined.
